Virgil Michael Cook, 66, of Hartford passed away Sunday, April 25, 2021, at Bronson Methodist Hospital, Kalamazoo.
Mike, as he was known by most, was born Oct. 9, 1954, in Benton Harbor, the son of Gilbert and Elsie (Pointer) Cook, both of whom precede him in passing. Also preceding him are three brothers: Earl Cook, Dennis Cook and Kenneth Cook; and a sister, Dorlene Neely.
Mike spent 50 years as a general contractor, working 24 years for Gatz Construction.
Mike married the former Alice Burns on Aug. 15, 1992. She survives, along with five children: Virgil Michael (Mary) Cook Jr., of Dowagiac, Othena (Tim) Vandermer of Roscommon, Amanda Hyatt of Keeler, Brent Hyatt of Edwardsburg and David (Sharon) Hyatt of Fairborn, Ohio. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild on the way.
The family will welcome friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 28 at the Hartford Bible Church, where the service to honor his memory will commence at 1 p.m. Thursday, April 29, with Pastor Steven Bisbee officiating. As per Mike’s wishes, cremation will take place following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Hartford General Baptist Church.
