Valeria Baker was born in Hertel, Wis., on April 11, 1947, the daughter of Philip Taylor and Viola (Alexis) Graverette.
Valeria passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2022, at the Chalet of Niles.
She is survived by two sons, Christopher D. Taylor of Lakeland, Fla. and Charles M. Baker of Austin, Texas. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Kearsten Taylor, Abigail Taylor, Christina Taylor and Breanna Taylor; a great grandson, Preston St. Germain; and three sisters: Lucinda Graverette-Smith of Dowagiac, Phyllis Taylor and Julie Sanders, both of Wisconsin.
Valeria was preceded in passing by a daughter, Abigail Baker; and both of her parents.
Valeria was formerly employed as a microbiologist at Proctor and Gamble for many years. She also attended Lake Michigan College, and is a longtime member of the Pokagon Band of Potawatomi Indians.
A traditional Native American Ceremony will start on Saturday, Feb. 19, at noon, at the Center of History and Culture in Dowagiac, and will conclude with her being buried at 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 21, in Sacred Heart of Mary Cemetery in Silver Creek Township.
