Jerry Dean Tanner, 74, of Hartford passed away suddenly on Sunday, July 19, 2020, at Ascension Borgess Hospital in Kalamazoo.
Jerry was born on May 19, 1946, in Bradford, Ark., the son of Carl and Madeline (Robertson) Tanner. He served his country proudly in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War. He was carpenter by trade.
Jerry married the former Joan Pleyer, who preceded him in passing on March 28, 2012. Also preceding him in passing was a son, Ric Tanner; a grandson, Cole Birkhead; his parents; and brothers, Jim, Ray and Bob Tanner.
Jerry leaves behind to cherish his memory, two sons, Josh Tanner and Donnie Tanner; a stepson, Troy Nevins; a stepdaughter, Nicole Nevins; 11 grandchildren: Noah Tanner, Chloe Tanner, Nathaniel Tanner, James Tanner, Jacob Tanner, Heather Tanner, Dylan Tanner, Drake Nevins, Josie Nevins, Luke Birkhead and Ryder Birkhead; and a brother, Don Tanner.
The family will welcome friends from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, July 23, at Calvin Funeral Home in Hartford. You must wear a mask and please remember that we are restricted on the number of people allowed inside at one time, so please be patient and all will be able to greet the family. A celebration of life service to honor Jerry’s memory will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, July 24, at Maple Hill Cemetery, Hartford.
