Evelyn Locena Arrans, 95, was born Oct. 14, 1924, and passed away Aug. 16, 2020, at her home in Paw Paw. Evelyn was the daughter of Guy and Hazel (Crankshaw) Smith, who preceded her in death.
In January of 1941, Evelyn was united in marriage to Gilbert LeRoy Arrans who also preceded her in death along with a daughter, Locena Leone Harris; a brother, Fredrick Smith and three sisters; Elwanda Curtis, Elvira Channels and Zeta Smith.
Evelyn is survived by children: Elena (Bill) Krause, Leeon (Dixie) Arrans, Guy (Beth) Arrans, Gary (Cathy) Arrans, Nettie (Billie) Briley, and son-in-law, Don Harris; a brother, Daune (Jan) Smith, and many nieces and nephews. Evelyn is also survived by grandchildren: Penny, Don Jr., Wayne, and Cheryl Harris, Kaye Johnson, Kim Ellis, Bill Krause II, Eric Arrans, Angela Murphy, Shelly Whitaker, Brett Arrans, Lynn and Cara Arrans, Heather LaBlanc and Billy Briley II. Evelyn had 33 great-grandchildren, two great-step grandchildren, 10 great-great-grandchildren, one great-great-step grandchild, and good friend, Elaine Kidder.
Evelyn was a wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, aunt, honorary aunt and grandparent to many people who will always remember and love her. Evelyn never met a person she didn’t call a friend. She will be greatly missed by all.
The family will welcome friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 21, at the East Arlington Baptist Church, where a celebration of life service to honor Evelyn’s memory will follow. Pastor Glen Cowles will officiate. Evelyn will be laid to rest, next to her husband in Hicks Cemetery, Arlington Township. Instead of flowers Evelyn would like memorials to be made to Eleanor’s Pantry or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital. The family has entrusted the Calvin Funeral Home, Hartford, with arrangements.
