Eulene Soulard Obituary

Eulene “Sue” Soulard, formerly of Hartford, passed away peacefully at Spectrum Health Lakeland Medical Center, St. Joseph, on January 5, 2022, following a two-week battle with COVID-19.

Sue was born on Nov. 12, 1953, in Plant City, Fla., to Ozee and Marion Moon: she was the youngest of four children: Owen, Gary, and Mary. She and her siblings spent part of their childhood in Florida, before the family moved to Michigan, where she spent a large majority of her life in the Hartford and Watervliet areas. Despite living in “the north” for most of her life, Sue was extremely proud of her roots from down south, with her father being from Alabama and many family members scattered around Florida. In addition, Sue’s mother, Marion was from Australia and although Sue never had the chance to visit the land down under, she most certainly was very proud of that part of her heritage and cherished all the family over there and ones that traveled here that she got to spend time with.

She graduated from Hartford High School in 1972 and later in life went back to college where she earned her associates degree from Lake Michigan College. Sue spent many years working for HOPE Center at the Van Buren Mental Health Center, where she was able to forge many friendships and impact many lives. Sue had one child, Ryan, who was the center of her life and that she was very proud of. Ryan and Sue were inseparable throughout Ryan’s childhood and teen years, spending many good times together fishing, traveling, and with family.

Sue enjoyed all sorts of things in life and being a child of the 60’s and 70’s, certainly had an impact on her eclectic taste and enjoyment of a wide array of things. Sue had a green thumb for plants and gardening, a knack for baking and cooking, loved music and concerts, traveling, fishing, spending time with friends and family, and reminiscing of all the good times she had over the years. Sue attended the Immaculate Conception Church in Hartford for many years and was always involved with musicals, school events, and marching band events while Ryan was in school.

Sue is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Ryan and Christina Soulard of Lansing; brother, Owen (Maria) Moon of Bonita Springs, Fla., Mary (Jerry) LeMaster of Hartford, and brother, Gary Moon of Florida. In addition, she has many nieces and nephews that she was extremely proud of, Monica, Morgan, Josh, Chris, and Fred, along with their spouses and children that she loved dearly.

Anyone that knew Sue, would know that she would not want you to be sad of her passing, and instead to maybe turn on some good music that she liked such as Jimmy Buffet, BB King, Bob Marley, or any number of 60’s or 70’s classic rock or folk music, and know that she is no longer in any kind of pain or suffering. While she may have lost touch with many of her friends over the last several years, know if you are one of them, that she never stopped thinking or talking about you and the memories you made together, although she may not have always shown it, she loved you all.

A memorial of Sue’s life will occur in the coming months, cremation has taken place. The family has entrusted the Calvin Funeral Home, Hartford, with arrangements. Those wishing to leave condolences may do so at http://www.calvin-leonardfh.com.
