Wendall Rodney Tyler

Wendall Rodney Tyler, "Rodney" as he was known by most, was born on Nov. 6, 1939, in Paw Paw, the son of Grant and Hernaca (Johnson) Tyler. He passed away suddenly at the age of 78, on Sunday, Feb. 11, 2018, at his home in Decatur.

Rodney married Darlene Luster on June 26, 1969. He served his country proudly in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He then was employed at the Keeler Winery until it's closing and then went to work for Rocky Kietzer until his retirement. Rodney loved fishing and doing anything outdoors. After losing his leg, he took care of everyone's yards and enjoyed camping, and was known as "Smoky" for his outdoor cooking.

Rodney is survived by his children: Kathy Reyes, Regina Tyler, Sherry (Greg) Sparks and Shawna Tyler. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren: Cristal and Demetrio Reyes, Amber Chopp, Zackery Sparks, Luis, Miguel and Guadalupe Perez, Robert and Terry Thalles, Kyle Sircher; 18 great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Kermit Tyler and Walt (Rose) Tyler.

Rodney was preceded in passing by his wife, Darlene on March 21, 2005; two sons, Robbie and Terry Tyler; a daughter, Diane Ramos; granddaughter, Tia Sullivan; sister, Ethlynn Jones; and three brothers: Kenneth, Bob and Keith Tyler.

The family will receive friends from noon to 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 15, 2018, at Keeler General Baptist, where the celebration of life service to honor Rodney's memory will follow. The Rev. Jesse Maya will officiate. Rodney will be laid to rest beside his wife in Keeler Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please make your donation to the family.
