Ward Henry Collins

September 27, 1947 — April 29, 2017

Ward Henry Collins was born Sept. 27, 1947, on the family farm in Hartford. He was the son of George and Eleanor (Baird) Collins. Ward passed away suddenly at home on Saturday, April 29, 2017.

Ward was a 1966 graduate of Hartford High School, and graduated from Western Michigan University with a bachelor’s degree. He was formerly employed at Marks and Gergens and the James River Company. In his spare time, Ward enjoyed watching sports of all kinds. He was a die-hard Michigan Wolverine and Detroit Tigers fan. Friday's were spent with the guys, but his most enjoyable times were spent with his family. You would often see him outside in his garden or just doing yard work.

On Jan. 16, 1981, Ward was united in marriage to Eunice Spradley. She passed away on Sept. 22, 2010. Also preceding Ward in passing were his parents; a stepson, Teddy Hutchinson; and his stepfather, Andrew Ozanich.

Ward is survived by a daughter, Kimberly (Gordon) Peterek of Three Oaks; two sons, Jimmy Hutchinson and Charles Hutchinson; five grandchildren: Nathan, Matthew (Olivia Buzzell), Myke, Taylor and Lanie; two brothers, Dale and Tom Collins; a sister, Sarita Collins; his partner, Marsha Hammond; a niece, Tammy (Dennis) Graham; and a nephew, Mahlon Collins.

The family will welcome friends from noon to 2 p.m. Thursday, May 4, 2017, at the Calvin Funeral Home, Hartford, followed by a celebration of Ward's life. Ward will be laid to rest in Maple Hill Cemetery in Hartford. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Animal Lovers Inc. in Three Oaks.
