John Allen Martin, Sr.

John Allen Martin Sr., 68, of Hartford passed away Tuesday, July 25, 2017, at Lakeland Medical Center, St. Joseph.

John was born June 3, 1949, in Watervliet, the son of George and Anna (McCarthy) Martin, both of whom preceded him in passing. He was also preceded in passing by two brothers, Horace and Tom Martin.

John was a graduate of Watervliet High School, worked for Kalin Construction, Harris Trucking, Burnette Foods and later retired as a truck driver for Gra-Bell Trucking. He served his community as a member of the Hartford Township board of review. He loved living on the lake for 49 years, snowmobiling, car shows and truck and tractor pulls.

John is survived by two sons, John (Julie) Martin of Watervliet and Scott Martin of Hartford; four granddaughters: Madelyn and Morgan Martin, Naomi Martin and Jordyn Martin; two brothers, Ed (Madonna) Martin of Hartford and Steve (Ardene) Martin of Dimondale, Mich.; a sister, Irene Helland of Edina, Minn.; and a special friend, Diane Guthrie of Watervliet.

The family will welcome friends from 6-8 p.m. Friday, July 28, at the Calvin Funeral Home, Hartford, where the service to honor his memory will commence at noon Saturday, July 29. Burial will follow in Watervliet Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Berrien County Cancer Service.
