James Edmond Honea

James Edmond Honea, 71, of Palm Bay, Fla., formerly of Hartford, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2019 at his residence in Florida.


James was born December 24, 1947 in Berrien Springs, the son of Frank and Eva (Gaston) Honea, both of whom precede him in death. Also preceding him in passing are two brothers: Preston and Sherman Honea.


James honorably served his country in the United States Marines during the Vietnam War, where he did two terms of service. He earned a purple heart, along with a National Defense Service medal, Combat Action ribbon, Vietnam Service medal, Vietnam Campaign medal, Presidential Unit Citation and Rifle Marksman Badge.


James is survived by his son, James Honea of Coloma; four grandchildren: Christopher, Alexander, Dallas, and Jasmine. He is also survived by two sisters: Betty (Frank) Houart-Dockter of Hartford and Estell Wilson of Hartford.


As per James' wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial gathering to honor his memory will commence on Saturday, Oct. 12 at 1:00 p.m. at Ely Park, Hartford, with military rites being conducted during the gathering by the North Berrien Military Rites Team.
