Francisco Bravo-Torres, age 70, started his last great adventure to our heavenly home and passed peacefully on Wednesday, June 3rd, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.
Francisco shared his namesake with St. Francis of Assisi, with whom he had many life parallels in his love of nature, animals, and God. He was the best and happiest version of himself in nature, surrounded by bird song and sunshine, and in good honest labor that glorified God. Loving life in this way stemmed from growing up on a farm in Aratzipu, a small village that lay at the foot verdant rolling hills. His family grew many crops, raised cows, chickens, horses, and pigs. As a young man, he fell in love with his next-door neighbor, his faithful wife of 33 years who survives him, Maria del Carmen. Together, they emigrated in 1987 and moved to Michigan in 1991, creating a beautiful, quiet, and peaceful life in Lawrence. They were blessed with 4 children in their marriage: Crystal, Cynthia, Arcadio, and Dulce. For Francisco, his children were his greatest pride and joy. He loved dressing up his children and would often buy his baby girls the prettiest lace dresses with matching bows and his son polished cowboy boots with matching cowboy hat and belt. He lived for his children and was so proud of all of their accomplishments. Later in life, he would often say that he was the most blessed in the love of his children.
His later years were marked by metastasized cancer that did little to diminish the great man that he was and his love for life. When asked how he was, he would often remark “100 and a little more”, his favorite expression. In life, he was a very dapper man, who would never dream of stepping out without first ironing his clothes, brushing his hair and mustache, and ensuring his belt, boots, and hat matched. Major illness and chemo visits could not deter his dignity, as he would go to every appointment impeccably dressed, believing it the height of impoliteness to go anywhere unkept. During the second half of his life, he found peace and comfort in his faith, attending Mass and Adoration frequently with his wife and children. He prayed often and deeply, trusting in his Lord both in the seasons of bounty and drought. Francisco was a man who loved deeply, and received it back in equal measure from his family and his Lord.
Francisco is preceded in death by his parents, Celia Torres Bravo, and father, Arcadio Bravo Tule. He is survived by his loving spouse, Maria del Carmen; and his children: Crystal, Cynthia, Arcadio, and Dulce. He is also survived by siblings: Alicia, Antonio, Guille, Estella, Angelina, Luis, Ricardo, and Adriana, and was beloved by numerous nephews, nieces, and extended family members, as well.
Visitation will be held preceding the Funeral Mass from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m., on Friday, June 5th, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, located at 63559 60th Ave., Hartford, MI 49057. His burial will be held at Saint Joseph Catholic Cemetery, 7671 Red Arrow Hwy., Watervliet, MI 49098 at 1:30 p.m. A light meal will be provided at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church after the burial. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that Memorial Masses be offered for the repose of Francisco’s soul, or donations can be made in honor of Francisco’s life to Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, who lovingly walked with him in his journey since 1991.
