Edward George Martin, 83, of Hartford passed away suddenly on Tuesday, Oct. 6, 2026, at his home.
Ed, as he was known by most, was born March 29, 1943, in Watervliet, the son of George and Annamarie (McCarthy) Martin, both of whom precede him in passing. Also preceding him in death are his brothers: Horace, John, and Tom (Tim).
Ed served his country proudly in the United States Army Reserves for six years. Ed was known for his love of Belgian horses. Over many years, he owned hundreds of them and leased them to farmers for their farming needs. Many have attended auctions where he rattled the auctioneer lingo to get items sold. He specialized in farm auctions. He enjoyed farming, as well as raising hay for the last several years. And, of course, his love of older tractors, combines, and other farm equipment occupied much of his time. He was a member of the Michigan Flywheelers Association for many years. As a cross country truck driver, he accumulated millions of miles on the road with semis without a single accident.
Ed married the former Madonna Brown on Aug. 8, 1992, and she survives, along with a daughter, Tangie (Anthony) Bearty; a granddaughter, Alizandra Crumb; a sister, Irene Helland; a brother, Steven (Ardene) Martin; two step-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
The family will welcome friends from 2 to 3 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 12, at the Calvin Funeral Home, Hartford, where the service to honor Ed’s memory will commence at 3 p.m., with Pastor Jim Robertson of the Townline Church in Bloomingdale officating. Burial will follow in Maple Hill Cemetery, Hartford, where military rites will be performed. Those wishing to leave condolences for the family may do so at http://www.calvin-leonardfh.com.
