Charlene Louise McFarland, 90, of Hartford passed away Tuesday, Jan. 23, 2018, in Maryland.
She was born on July 24, 1927, in Hartford, the daughter of Marshall and Bertha (Van Gorder) Kaylor. Charlene was married for 55 years to Jay McFarland, also of Hartford. Jay passed away on Dec. 14, 1999.
Charlene was also preceded by a daughter, Theresa Morris; her parents; and a sister, Loretta Paul.
She was employed at the Voice of Music (V-M) for a number of years, and worked at other companies in the Hartford and Mattawan area until she retired at the age of 65 to Van Auken Lake with her husband.
Charlene is survived by a son, Terry (Adrienne) McFarland of Severn, Md.; five grandchildren: Mark McFarland, David (Colleen) McFarland, Cynthia Gilman, Tammy (David) Millword and Todd McFarland; eight great-grandchildren: Abigail, Austin, Amanda, Susan, Donald, Jessica, Jennifer, and James; four great-great-grandchildren: Dakota, Aiden, Brantley, and Sienna; and many other family members and friends.
The family will welcome friends from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 30, at the Calvin Funeral Home, Hartford. A celebration of life service to honor Charlene’s memory will take place at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 31, at the Hartford Federated Church, where she was a lifelong member. The Rev. Benjamin Williamson will officiate. Burial will follow in Maple Hill Cemetery, Hartford. Memorial donations in Charlene’s name may be made to Hartford Federated Church.
