Agnes Eugenia Phillips, 95, of Fremont passed away Monday, Sept. 29, 2025, at the Newaygo Medical Care Facility.
Jean, as she was known by most, was born May 19, 1930, in Boston, Mass. She was the daughter of William and Alice (Johanson) Ryan.
Jean worked at Woolworth’s Department Store in Boston. Upon moving to Michigan, she worked for a short time at the Watervliet Paper Mill. On May 30, 1949, she was united in marriage with James Phillips. For the majority of her life, Jean was a stay at home mother. She devoted her life to raising her six children. Jean was an avid reader, and loved watching classic movies and musicals. She loved the holidays and always made them special for her children and grandchildren.
James passed away on Nov. 8, 2011. Also preceding Jean in passing were her parents.
Jean leaves behind to cherish her memory, her six children: James (Deborah) Phillips Jr., Ronald (Mary) Phillips, Deborah Rhoderick, John (Christy) Phillips, Denise (Rudy) Hirzel and Wendy (Jim) Fillmore. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Brian Phillips, Angie Phillips, Jessie Phillips, Tiffany Handy, Nicole Figueroa, Thomas DeMartino, Jamie Phillips, Matthew (Kari) Phillips, Michelle (Josh) Pyard, Matthew Mason, Benjamin Mason, Regina (Michael) Birmingham, Jeremiah Ewert, Casey Brumitt, Bryant Brumitt, Tristan Hirzel, Cullen Hirzel, Victoria (Cody) Simons, Rebecca (TJ) Davis, Jimmy (Elizabeth) Fillmore Jr., Joshua Fillmore, and Dennis Fillmore. Jean was also blessed with many great and great-great grandchildren.
The family will welcome friends from 10 to 11 a.m., on Thursday, Oct. 2, at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Hartford, where the Mass of Christian Burial will be held immediately following. Father Jacob Thomas will be the celebrant. Burial will follow at Maple Hill Cemetery in Hartford. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the family.
