Sharon Kay Bassett was born on Oct. 17, 1938, in Dowagiac, the daughter of Robert and Esther (Abbs) Iliff. Sharon passed away peacefully at the age of 85 on Thursday, Feb. 22, 2024, at her home in Dowagiac.
Sharon was united in marriage to Stanley Bassett on Aug. 3, 1957. She was a loving stay at home mom and in her spare time, she loved bowling, playing cards with her girl friends, attending summer concerts and going out to eat. But her most important times were spent with her family, especially the time spent with her grandchildren and all the family gatherings.
Sharon leaves behind to cherish her memory her four children: Ken (Gayle) Bassett of Sister Lakes, Mich., Brenda Bogart of South Haven, Lori Bassett of Cassopolis and Ron (Tammy) Bassett of Sister Lakes; six grandchildren: Jennifer, Matthew, Brittany, Kayleen, Ryan and Corey; eight great-grandchildren: Darion, Senekah, Khiley, Camden, Maguire, Miles, Skylah and Sariyah; a sister, Shirley Slaughter; a step-sister, Jane (Dan) Herman; and two step-brothers, Howard Barnum and Keith (Debra) Barnum.
Sharon was preceded in passing by her husband, Stan; her parents; her sister, Joretta Middleton; and a step-sister, Mardell Antisdel.
A graveside service to honor Sharon's memory will commence at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 28, at the Keeler Cemetery, with Pastor Lonnie Truelove presiding. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made to Caring Circle Hospice of Corewell Lakeland Health, St. Joseph. The family has entrusted the Calvin Funeral Home, Hartford, with arrangements. Those wishing to leave memorial condolences for the family may do so at http://www.calvin-leonardfh.com.
