Samuel Waterlander, 72, of Keeler Township passed away Saturday, December 7, 2013 at his home.
Samuel was born on May 9, 1941, in Decatur, MI., to Evert and Lena (Hempenius) Waterlander. Samuel proudly served his country in the Marines during the Vietnam War. He retired after 25 years as a custodian at the Dowagiac Union Schools.
He is survived by his wife, the former Carol Shellenbarger, a son, Scott of Keeler Township, a sister, Magdalene Waterlander of Saint Joseph, a sister, Martha Teisan of Decatur, numerous nieces, nephews as cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents a brother, Jacob Waterlander and two sisters.
The family will welcome friends from 1 to 2 P.M.; Wednesday, December 11 at the Full Gospel Christian Tabernacle Church in Watervliet, where the service to honor his memory will commence at 2 P.M. with Pastor Tom Fuller officiating. Samuel will be laid to rest in Herrison Cemetery, Decatur. The family asks memorial donations in Samuel's name be made to either the family or to the church.
